Water Intake Calculator
Hydration needs vary significantly with body weight, physical activity, and climate. This calculator uses body-weight-based recommendations adjusted for your lifestyle to give you a realistic daily water target.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much water should I drink per day?+
General guidelines suggest 2–3 litres per day for most adults, but the optimal amount depends on your body weight, activity level, and climate. This calculator uses the 30–40 ml per kg of body weight formula, adjusted for exercise and environment.
Does tea, coffee, or juice count towards daily water intake?+
Yes, all beverages contribute to hydration, including tea and coffee despite being mild diuretics. However, plain water is the most efficient hydration source. Sugary drinks and alcohol should not substitute for water.
What are signs of dehydration?+
Common signs include dark yellow urine, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and reduced urination. Mild dehydration (as little as 1–2% of body weight in fluid loss) can noticeably impair physical and cognitive performance.
Does exercise increase water requirements?+
Yes. You lose roughly 0.5–1 litre of water per hour of moderate exercise through sweat. Add at least 500 ml for every 30 minutes of exercise. In hot and humid conditions (like Indian summers), needs can be significantly higher.
