Ratio & Proportion Calculator
Three tools in one: (1) Simplify any ratio to its lowest terms, (2) Solve missing value in a proportion (a:b = c:?), (3) Split any amount into parts in a given ratio. Useful for students, business partners splitting profits, recipe scaling, and map calculations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you simplify a ratio?+
Find the GCD (Greatest Common Divisor) of both numbers and divide each by it. Example: 12:8 — GCD is 4, simplified ratio is 3:2. If the numbers are decimals, multiply both by 10 or 100 first to make them whole numbers, then simplify.
What is a proportion?+
A proportion states that two ratios are equal: a:b = c:d, or equivalently a/b = c/d. Cross multiplication gives a×d = b×c. To find the missing value d: d = (b×c)/a. Used extensively in maps (scale), recipes (scaling), currency conversion, and similar triangles.
